HEAR HER STORY

In the winter of 1861 eighteen-year-old Fanny Craythorne contracts an ill-advised marriage at St Michael’s Anglican Church in Christchurch with tragic consequences.

Having defied convention, being accused of  immorality and falling foul of the law, Fanny finds herself in grave jeopardy as she faces the censorious judgement of colonial society.

Fanny reinvents herself as an exemplary citizen and plays her role in the historic events of the age, but also engages in deceptions, the truth of which we may never unravel.

A new century is beckoning and Fanny finds herself the matriarch of a brood that includes some who will (to her disapproval) walk the same perilous paths she herself once trod.
